 Social Science PhD Program The School of Humanities and Social Science at University of Antioquia is delighted to announce that applications are open for the second cohort of its Social Science PhD program. The application deadline is June 15, 2012. Philosophy of the program The Social Science PhD program at University of Antioquia aims at training qualified professionals who are able to understand the theoretical and conceptual foundations of Social Sciences. The program is based on the belief that a wide variety of social phenomena are best understood through the development of alternative solutions to create a more just and equitable society. Graduate profile A graduate of the Social Science PhD program is prepared to conduct high-quality, independent research. Our graduates are equipped with the skills required to conduct in-depth scientific research in a wide range of institutions including universities, research institutes and government and non-government agencies. Curriculum The first-year curriculum consists of two seminars on theoretical and methodological foundations of the social sciences. Students are also required to participate in discussions concerning a specific research area. All Ph.D. students must complete a doctoral dissertation. Doctoral students must take at least 20 credits by attending additional seminar series available both inside and outside the department and university. Students must complete a total of 86 credits in order to receive the Ph.D. degree. Admission requirements In addition to the general requirements for admission to the Ph.D. program, applicants must also: - Have an undergraduate degree from an approved nationally-accredited university.
- Hold a master’s degree from a recognized college or university.
- Submit a letter of recommendation from an academic source who can speak with certainty about your professional achievements and potential.
- Submit a letter of support from your academic adviser endorsing the
- Present a letter of endorsement from the student’s academic adviser attesting to the project feasibility and contribution.
- Provide current resume and supporting documents including applicant’s full name, academic background and work experience as well as academic and research experience, awards, honors, publications and presentations, among others.
- Submit completed application form
- Submit a complete research proposal including title, problem statement, procedure, literature review, etc.
- Submit proof of second language proficiency
