Chemotherapy course

The University of Antioquia Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Medicancer are pleased to offer a new edition of the Graduate Certificate in Cancer Chemotherapy Treatment starting February 5, 2013.

This 160-hour course aims at providing students with a solid foundation in cancer chemotherapy treatment to ensure the safety of both the patient and health care personnel.

Who should attend

The course is intended for healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, pharmacists and senior level undergraduates.

Curriculum

The course covers a wide range of important topics including:

  • The basics of cancer
  • The role of the pharmacist in the care of the cancer patient
  • Prevention and early detection of cancer
  • Cancer diagnosis
  • Radiation therapy & surgery
  • Chemotherapy:

             Therapeutic foundations of drug-based cancer treatment
             Principles of oncologic pharmacotherapy
             Clinical pharmacology of antineoplastic therapies
             Targeted cancer therapies
             Foundations of evidence-based medicine (EBM)
             Oral chemotherapy
             Pharmaceutical care and the cancer patient
             Bioequivalence in clinical pharmacology
             Antineoplastic drug administration

  • Quality standards for the oncology pharmacy service
  • Pharmacoeconomics
  • Patient safety
  • Cancer rehabilitation
  • Pain and palliative care for cancer patients

Course methodology

The coursework includes lectures, workshops and laboratories.

Admission requirements

Applicants must submit certified copy of degree certificate. Senior level students must provide evidence of enrollment.
