The Academic Council
As its name indicates, the Academic Council is the University’s highest academic authority. It comprises the Rector, the Vice chancellors for research, teaching, extension and administration, the deans of the various schools, and representatives of the faculty and students.
The primary function of the Academic Council is to approve and evaluate research and extension activities and the plans of study. It is also responsible for setting the academic standards that should be met by both faculty and students, as well as defining administrative guidelines and setting the University's admission policies and requirements.
Also called the President, the Rector is the chief executive officer of the University and also serves as its key spokesperson. The rector also is charged with the responsibility of managing the University and all its departments, including the operation and administration of the University’s academic activities. The Rector is responsible for leading the University to accomplish its educational missions and goals. His office is incompatible with other public and private elected or appointed positions.
