UdeA medical graduate recognized with Harvard’s Young Mentor Award

On Monday, May 23, 2016, Harvard University awarded its prestigious Excellence in Mentoring Awards at the Tosteson Medical Education Center Amphitheater in Boston, United States. Dr. Joseph F. Arboleda, MD, PhD, who graduated from the UdeA School of Medicine, became the recipient of the Young Mentor Award. He currently serves as Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School.

The Excellence in Mentoring Awards were established to recognize the value of quality mentoring relationships and the impact they have on professional development and career advancement in basic/clinical medicine, research, teaching, and administration.

Since its inception in 2005, the Young Mentor Award recognizes faculty who are still in the early stages of their career, but are devoting their time to providing mentoring for others.

Nominations can be made by other faculty members and students and should reflect the extent to which the mentor has provided sponsorship, encouragement and support for the career and/or personal development of other faculty, trainees, and students.

Nominations are reviewed and candidates selected by a selection committee made up of faculty from the Harvard School of Medicine and members of the Office for Diversity Inclusion and Community Partnership (DICP) who are responsible for making recommendations to the Dean’s office.

The School of Medicine at Universidad de Antioquia would like to congratulate Dr. Arboleda-Velasquez on this great achievement!
