The SIU is a outstanding place, certified under the NTC ISO 9001 standard since 2009. Its campus spans 34,424 m² and is equipped to meet international standards in technology, safety, and efficiency, necessary for the development of cutting-edge research. It brings together diverse areas of knowledge, including social sciences and humanities, health sciences, exact sciences, and engineering.

The SIU is home to a broad, multidisciplinary scientific community, including researchers/professors who coordinate, lead, and mentor the next generation of researchers, particularly undergraduate and graduate students. In addition, the SIU promotes collaboration and the strengthening of interdisciplinary and interinstitutional relationships at the local, national, and international levels.
