Strategic Focus

The Research Group Africanías Gente de Uno – Bantú (GIAGU BANTÚ), seeks to recover, produce and disseminate African and Afro-diasporic thought and feeling as a strategy to counteract structural and educational racism in different areas of society. The group focuses primarily on studies related to primary, secondary and university education, as well as teacher training. This is intended to effect change in the ways Africa and its descendants are imagined and represented in intercultural dialogue. The group aims to have a local, national and international impact in the field of Afro-descendant and Caribbean studies.

Key Research Findings

The research on the dialogue of knowledge, which was carried out using a decolonial and intercultural methodology and approach, was published as a book and now available to consult . ISBN 978-958-5157-14-9
Educational research on ethno-education and Afro-Colombian studies resulted in two texts to be used as teaching and pedagogical tools for teachers. ISBN 978-958-8711-84-3, and 978-958-8711-85-0
Due to its research methodology, the impact of the research project “The Black Box of Structural Racism,” was twofold: it raised awareness of racism in higher education and made participants realise and reflect on this issue. It also led to the creation of various expressions and categories on racism for new research. The project enabled the creation of a research seedbed in Afrocentric studies and is also expected to contribute to the development of anti-racist policies at the UdeA.
Research on the Caminandar de las Africanías at the UdeA gathered some of the activities carried out by the CADEAFRO collective in this field, while also providing information on the history of these processes at the institution.

Services and/or Products Portfolio

We can offer consulting services, training and the production of educational materials and resources related to teacher training. We also offer undergraduate and graduate courses in African Studies.
