Strategic Focus

As a group, we hope to contribute to our area of knowledge through the implementation of research projects that explore how the language used by the government, the media, language centers, and other actors, contributes to the discrimination of certain social groups in favor of others, and to the implementation and promotion of certain ideologies not only with respect to English but with respect to traditionally discriminated populations and groups (e.g., women, poor people, English teachers).

Incorporating multiliteracy practices in 21st-century classrooms: A case study of faculty from a Colombian public university. This is an ongoing project registered with the Committee for Research Development at UdeA-CODI
Exploring the English needs of EFL students and faculty at a public university in Medellín, Colombia. This a closed project developed with the support of the US Embassy and the School of Languages at UdeA.
Discursive and Social Practices of Language Centers in Medellín, Colombia: A Multimodal and Multimedia Study. It is a closed project developed with researchers from Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas- Bogotá which was presented to the 2019 reseach Call for Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts.
Bilingualism, Globalization, Non-native Speaker English Teachers, and the Media: The Case of Latin America. This is a closed project that was conducted in collaboration with the EALE group of the School of Languages of the Universidad de Antioquia in 2013-2017.

Services and/or Products Portfolio

The group has offered master´s courses to students in the areas of translation and language teaching and learning. In addition, it has offered professional development courses for English teachers and has made national and international presentations where the results of the research projects carried out have been presented.
